THE EXCITEMENTS
jazz, pop i rock, mestissatge // Rhythm & Blues, Soul
In early-2010, The Excitements, a veritable musical hurricane, burst onto the scene in Barcelona to serve up their trademark cocktail of old-style rhythm & blues and soul, with a hint of the finest R'n'R. The band received a warm welcome at home and this acclaim gradually spread all over Europe. Since then, Adrià Gual (rhythm guitar) and Daniel Segura (bass) have taken their action-packed show to such festivals as Eurosonic (Holland), MAMA (France), Couleur Café (Belgium), Les Nuits Secrètes (France), Jazzaldía (San Sebastián, Spain), Nancy and Lille (France) and Liège (Belgium), as well as playing at a long list of specialist clubs and festivals. The Excitements have also toured venues in Holland, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Britain. The band’s strongest influences are to be found amongst the best 20th-century black music, leaning away from modern soul-funk to stick to the canon of old school soul. The rhythm section provides powerful backing for a brass section in the purest tradition of early-60s combos. Etta James, Ike and Tina Turner, early James Brown, Sugar Pie DeSanto: these names will give you an idea of what The Excitements sound like as they remain faithful to US R&B and soul traditions. Their debut album is now out on the Barcelona-based Penniman Records label.
