Biel Ballester was born in Majorca in 1974. The passion this self-taught musician feels for gypsy jazz and jazz manouche has led him to give countless concerts all over Europe, the United States and Spain, and to play alongside some of the most outstanding groups and soloists in the genre. Some of his tracks have been selected to represent the best of international gypsy jazz international on compilations released by such labels as Hot Club Records in Norway and Wagram Music in France, placing Biel right up there with the great international artists.
He has recorded two CDs for the American label Refined Records (Echoes from Mallorca and Bistro de Barcelona), two for Le Q Records in the UK and a couple more for the Norwegian label Club Records: one alongside the founder, the Norwegian guitarist Jon Larsen, the other with his own band (Avanti!). Woody Allen included two of Biel’s compositions on the soundtrack of his film Vicky Cristina Barcelona, as well as performing with the Majorcan musician on several occasions.
