The IRL to hold a public tender to represent Catalonia at the Venice Visual Arts Biennale 2015

The Institut Ramon Llull is once again organizing a public tender to choose a curated project to represent Catalonia at the 56th edition of the Venice Visual Arts Biennale in 2015, as part of the Collateral Events programme. This will be the fourth time the IRL has presented Catalonia at the Venice Biennale of Visual Arts, which is due to take place from 9th May to 22nd November, with Okwui Enwezor as artistic director.

The purpose of the tender is to seek an ambitious, attractive and at the same time convincing proposal, to develop some of the fundamental and most symptomatic lines of contemporary creation in the current context of paradigm shift. The winning project will have to include newly created unpublished work and will have to make it possible to reflect contemporary Catalan creation, at all times maintaining a fruitful dialogue with the principal trends in contemporary art.

To choose the winning project the IRL has appointed a panel of experts that will be presided by Marta Gili, director of Jeu de Paume. Members include Bartomeu Marí, director of the MACBA; Joan Minguet, president of the Catalan Art Critics’ Association (ACCA); Xavier Antich, president of the Board of Trustees of the Antoni Tàpies Foundation; Martina Millà, head of Programming and Projects at the Miró Foundation; Llucià Homs, director of Promotion of the Cultural Sectors of the Barcelona Institute of Culture; and Damià Martínez, head of the IRL’s Department of Creation.

The competition will be divided into three stages. Firstly, Participation, open to the submission of proposals by all interested professionals and companies that meet the requirements. In this first stage, which will close on 1st July, it is necessary to present a curriculum vitae and a two-page pre-project that reflects the proposal’s general ideas in keeping with the conceptual framework and the budget. Secondly, an Ideas stage in which the panel will invite a maximum of three selected participants to present a development of the initial project. Finally, the Contracting of the winning project. The panel’s final verdict will be made public on 23rd July.
