The International Festival of Authors of Toronto presents special focus on Catalan literature and culture

Literature.  Toronto,  22/10/2015

Toronto’s International Festival of Authors, which runs October 22–November 1, 2015, is delighted to present a thematic focus on Catalan literature and culture. Festival attendees will have the opportunity to engage with talented Catalan authors Anna Aguilar-Amat, Flavia Company, Marc Pastor, Jordi Puntí, Toni Sala, Martí Sales, Francesc Serés and Teresa Solana in a series of readings, round tables, interviews and a number of special events, all offering essential insight into their influences and the rich cultural life of Catalonia.

“We’ll be showcasing work from the Catalan region (Spain), its capital being Barcelona,” Geoffrey E. Taylor, Director of IFOA, explains. “Catalan literature is something most Torontonians know little about. We hope that they’ll choose to explore and learn more about the brilliant artists who write it. This will be an adventure for us all.”

“We have such a diverse, original and unpredictable literary scene in Catalonia – and so much Catalan literature is now being translated into English,” says Àlex Susanna, Director of the Institut Ramon Llull in Barcelona. “This focus at the IFOA is a wonderful opportunity for Canadian audiences to be introduced to some of the best Catalan novelists, poets, translators and crime-story writers.”

For more information about the Festival and for programming updates throughout the summer, the public may visit or call the Harbourfront Centre Box Office at 416-973-4000. Tickets to most IFOA events go on sale in September and are priced at $18/$15 for supporters/free for students and youth 25 and under (subject to availability). Some exceptions apply. Please refer to individual event listings.

Since its inception in 1974, IFOA has hosted over 8,500 authors from more than 100 countries, including 21 Nobel Laureates. Our season runs from September to June and includes the annual International Festival of Authors (October 22–November 1, 2015), including YoungIFOA and IFOA Ontario, and the annual ALOUD: a Celebration for Young Readers with Forest of Reading® Festival of Trees™ (May 12–13, 2015).
