Catalonia and Nicaragua will be the guests of honour at the 7th CinEScultura Festival, which is held annually in the German city of Regensburg and will take place from 25 April to 23 May. Launched in 2008 and organised by Regensburg University, the aim is to present Spanish and Latin American cinema and culture in order to broaden cultural and academic relations and to establish synergies. This year, coinciding with the celebration of the Tercentenary, the festival will be devoting a large part of its programme to Catalan cinema and culture, with 22 films as well as literary talks, concerts, exhibitions and plays. The Catalan programme has the support of the Institut Ramon Llull.
The festival will be inaugurated on 25 April with a screening of Mar Coll’s Tots volem el millor per a ella. The director will be attending. Then there will be the opening of Javier Mariscal’s exhibition about the film Chico y Rita and the institutional speeches by the mayor of Regensburg, the Nicaraguan ambassador, the cultural attaché of the Spanish embassy and the head of the IRL Creation Department, Damià Martínez. To close the event a concert will be given by the Nicaraguan group Xolotlán, followed by Kiko Veneno and DJ Tito.
Two days before the festival, to coincide with St George’s Day, there will be a reading of poems by Rubén Darío (1867-1916) and Gioconda Belli as representatives of Nicaragua, and by Salvador Espriu (1913-1985) as representative of Catalonia. Jordi Balada (Barcelona, 1980) and Anne-Sophie Donnaireix (Clermont-Ferrand, 1991) will read their poems in Catalan and French respectively. The musical accompaniment will be provided by the jazz duo Carina Schmitz (saxophone) and Jakob Rossmann (piano) and the classical trio Danette Brink (cello) Heike Nasritdinova (soprano) and Michael Braun (piano).
