The Institut Ramon Llull certificates accredit degrees of knowledge of the Catalan Language both for academic and work purposes (públic administration, business, institutions), and carry the same value as those issued by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Government), the Generalitat Valenciana (Valencian Government), the Government of Andorra and the Government of the Balearic Islands.

WHEN ARE THE INSTITUTE RAMON LLULL CATALAN EXAMS HELD?

The Institut Ramon Llull organises two exam sittings per year, in accordance with the academic calendars of the countries in which the exams are held. The first takes place in the months of May or June and the second in November.

WHERE WILL THE INSTITUTE RAMON LLULL HOLD THE CATALAN EXAMS THIS YEAR?

The list of locations where the IRL will be holding exams this year can be found on our website and are also published in the DOGC (Official Catalan Government Bulletin).

DO ALL OF THE EXAM LOCATIONS HOLD SITTINGS FOR ALL FIVE LEVELS?

The exam levels offered at each location varies according to the number of registered examinees for each of the levels. If there is not a minimum of three registered examinees for a given level, the Institut Ramon Llull reserves the right to cancel that exam. In case of cancellation, the Institut Ramon Llull will inform the examinees, who may be examined at the same level in another locality, or they may request a refund of the examination fees.

WHAT IS THE REGISTRATION FEE FOR THE CATALAN EXAMS?

The registration fees for the Institute Ramon Llull Catalan language exams are published annually in the DOGC (Official Catalan Government Bulletin) and can be consulted on our web page.

AT WHAT TIME AND WHERE ARE THE INSTITUT RAMON LLULL'S CATALAN LANGUAGE EXAMS HELD?

Following the fee payment deadline a list of exam locations, together with the name of a contact person at each one, will be posted on the Exam Location webpage, to provide you with information on the time and place of the exam.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO TAKE THESE EXAMS?

Anyone over the age of fourteen at the time of the exam, of any nationality, resident outside the Catalan-speaking area and also in Alghero, who wishes to accredit his/her knowledge of the Catalan Language is eligible to take the exams.

CAN I SIT FOR EXAMS FOR DIFFERENT LEVELS AT THE SAME CALL FOR EXAMS?

You can sit for various exams if the times and dates of the exams do not conflict.

DO I NEED TO HAVE TAKEN A PARTICULAR COURSE OR COURSES BEFORE SITTING FOR THE EXAMS?

The exams to receive a Catalan Language Certificate from the Institute Ramon Llull are open to anyone and designed to evaluate the candidate's linguistic competence without taking into consideration where and how that individual has learned the language.

IS IT NECESSARY TO HAVE PASSED THE PREVIOUS LEVEL BEFORE SITTING FOR THE EXAM FOR A GIVEN LEVEL?

The exams are not interlinked and you may sit for an exam at the level for which you feel you are prepared.

HOW AND WHEN WILL I LEARN THE RESULTS OF MY CATALAN EXAM?

You can go to our Results web page. The results of the first exam sitting will be made public in September of this year, and the results of the second sitting in February of next year.

WILL I RECEIVE A DIPLOMA IF I PASS THE CATALAN EXAM?

Once you have passed the exam you can enter your registration user name and password and download the official diploma online. As of 2009, the Institut Ramon Llull no longer issues diplomas in paper form.
