Joan Benesiu

"A novel of memory and scars: personal stories behind historical events, weaving essayistic reflection with testimonial power"

Teresa, a lecturer at the Valencian School of Architecture, is troubled by the sudden disappearance of her most gifted student, Carles Miquel. The young man had been working diligently on a thesis about the Atlantropa project, which aimed to drain the Mediterranean Sea to create new land for farming and habitation. While Carles remains missing, Teresa travels to Hungary to attend a ceremony honouring an architectural project she once designed with Eszter Lovász, an old acquaintance from her time in Paris. There, she uncovers the buried stories and histories of people and projects destined for ruin.

Terminus is a journey through aborted possibilities, a profound reflection on the social weight of unfinished works, a meditation on failure and a rebellion against oblivion. Joan Benesiu invites us to explore the borders of our shared past to redefine Europe’s human geography, drawing from the finest European literary tradition.
