Children’s and YA : Middle Grade Fiction
Teresa Muñoz shows great craft tackling with tenderness, while avoiding cheap sensationalism, a reality as terrible as intra-familial child sexual abuse. Written in the first person, the author absorbs us into the claustrophobic world of Nil. In the middle of the covid pandemic his father suffers a sudden death. His uncle Iago moves into the home to help the family through lockdown. Suddenly, Nil is trapped with his nightmare. His father’s memories, his mother’s love and the happiness of their dog Lily are the counterweights that will allow Nil to free himself of abuse. A highly difficult literary exercise that carries a lot of responsibility
