Fiction
Rebeca, a woman crippled by fear, has just moved from Barcelona to a small village on the coast with her entire family. Before long, she meets the neighbours across the street: Camila, who harbours a secret; Gregori, who spends his nights smoking on the roof; and their daughter Flora, who doesn’t yet speak. Gradually, the relationship between the two families begins to curdle and Rebeca’s fears take on new forms, fed by the town’s geography, the magic of its seedy corners and
its inhabitants, both living and dead. Unease and desire will propel Rebeca along a path that sways between suspicion and paranoia.
Told in magnetic prose —part incantation, part invocation— Que morin els fills dels altres is a tale of metamorphosis. It follows one woman’s journey from fragility to hard-won courage, binding her to the witches of every age and every land. As in her previous book, Roser Cabré-Verdiell continues to unravel the tangled threads of family, desire and the limits of common sense.
