Children’s and YA : YA Fiction
Ben could be considered a spin-off from a very successful trilogy of three novels: Veritat, Mentida and Por (Truth, Lies and Fear), with over 250,000 copies sold. It is the personal story of Ben, the character in the trilogy that most captivated the author but can also be read as a separate novel. It opens with his funeral and then moves on to tell the story of his life. He is an enigmatic individual who wants to escape from poverty and uses fear to approach others. The ups and downs in Ben’s world bring various subjects of debate and reflection to the surface.
Care Santos’ writing stands out for the immediacy and forcefulness of the stories she tells, with their straightforward style and language and agile pacing.
