Philosophy broaches the difficult qüestions that crop up on the spur of the moment and on which the meaning of our lives depends. Will revolution save us from love? Is world pacification always a utopia to be wished for? Who has the power to ask the questions? In school though, we only find a system that puts words into pre-determined pigeon-holes and strings them together in leaden meanings. This is what led Marina Garcés to publish articles in newspapers. These gems have now been gathered in book form. Working beyond the classroom, this thinker has waged a kind of guerrilla war but instead of focusing on liberating “towns, neighbourhoods and regions”, she has “freed words, capturing their use and meaning”. Accompanying daily gestures — a hug, putting a ballot paper in the ballot box — with quotations from Malatesta and Wittgenstein, Garcés subverts reality and forces us to take sides and think about our lives.
