Promotional Materials

Grants for materials to promote works of Catalan and Aranese Literature abroad.

Introduction

The applicant should consult the Grant Rules and the Grant Call, given that some changes have been made with respect to previous years. The application forms filled out must be from the current year 2024.

PURPOSE

Translation of excerpts and production of promotional materials of works written in Catalan or Aranese.

RECIPIENTS

Publishers and literary agencies (natural person entrepeneurs or legal persons, public or private, Spanish or foreign)

If the requesting entity and the translator are the same person, it will be necessary for the requesting entity to be made up of two partners minimum.

GRANT-SUPPORTED EXPENDITURES

The concepts covered by the grant are:

  • a) The cost of translating an excerpt of the work, the author’s biography and the press releases. The excerpt translated may not exceed 20% of the original text (counted in pages of 2,100 characters including spaces).
  • b) The cost of drafting or translating an original text on the author and/or their work.
  • c) The cost of researching and translating press articles.
  • d) The cost of producing the promotional materials, in any format (print, digital and/or audiovisual):
    • Editorial production expenses: design, layout and printing.
    • Audiovisual production expenses: technical production, translation and subtitling.

In the case of works illustrated by an illustrator resident in Catalonia or the Balearic Islands, those in which the original text was written in a language other than Catalan will also be considered eligible.

Services provided by a professional not employed by the company and/or organisation that received the grant, for which financial compensation was received, are considered an eligible expense.

Expenditures deriving from the preparation and production of catalogs or websites of publishers and literary agencies that include more than one work and one author are not eligible.

Expenses corresponding to translations commissioned to a legal entity or those carried out with artificial intelligence, as well as post-editing work on translations, are not eligible.

The amount allocated to each grant can be up to 100% of the eligible expenses established, with a maximum amount of 3,000 euros for each application.

APPLICATION SUBMISSION

One application must be submitted per author. Applicants can submit up to a maximum of three applications per call.

Online: For Spanish applicants, self-employed individuals and legal entities.

Online: Foreign applicants (self-employed individuals and legal entities) who have applied for a grant to the Institut Ramon Llull in the past.

Foreign applicants (self-employed individuals and legal entities) requesting an Institut Ramon Llull grant for the first time. In this case, accreditation is required.The Ramon Llull Institut is responsible for generating and sending this after having verified the documentation accrediting the applicant’s identity.

The accreditation (user and password) is valid for five years from the date of issue, unless there is some change in the documents provided, of which the IRL must be informed. When filling out the accreditation form you must select “Literature and Thought” as the recipient department.

Please take into account that you should request your accreditation at least 48 hours before the application deadline.

First Call: From February 12th to May 16th, 2024

Forecasted Second Call: From July 1st to September 19th, 2024

 

SUBSTANTIATING THE GRANT

The applicant must substantiate at least 60% of the requested (and eligible) amount in order to receive the awarded grant, or the grant will be revoked.

If between 60 and 80% of the eligible amount is justified, the amount of the grant awarded will be adjusted downwards, proportionally.

If the amount that the applicant has justified is greater than 80% of the initially budgeted cost, there will be no reduction in the amount of the grant awarded.

The deadline to submit supporting documentation is November 15th, 2024.
