Cillie Motzfeldt Tirach was born in Norway in 1968. She lives in Northern Catalonia (France), is married and has three children. She studied French and social anthropology at the University of Oslo (Norway) and obtained the equivalent of a double Master’s degree in social anthropology and Catalan language and culture in 1994 from the Universities of Oslo and Perpignan (France). The topic of her thesis was Catalan identity in Northern Catalonia (France). She speaks Norwegian (Bokmål), French, Catalan and English.

She has translated a phrasebook (Ed. La Magrana), as well as several short stories for an anthology of works by writers from Spain, from Catalan into Norwegian (Bokmål), published by De norske Bokklubbene. She was a bilingual French-Catalan primary school teacher for 18 years. She has given classes at the Catalan Department of the University of Perpignan and in the teacher training programme at the University of Montpellier.

Since 2025, she has dedicated her time to improving her translation skills from French and Catalan into Norwegian (and vice versa) and to teaching Norwegian to French and Catalan learners.
