The IRL convenes the competition to choose the curating project that will represent Catalonia at the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale
The Institut Ramon Llull (IRL) is convening a public competition to choose the curating project for the participation of Catalonia at the 15th Venice Architecture Biennale next year. This will be the third time the IRL has promoted the presence of Catalonia there.
The Institut Ramon Llull is once again organizing a public tender to choose a curated project to represent Catalonia at the 56th edition of the Venice Visual Arts Biennale in 2015, as part of the Collateral Events programme. This will be the fourth time the IRL has presented Catalonia at the Venice Biennale of Visual Arts, which is due to take place from 9th May to 22nd November, with Okwui Enwezor as artistic director.
Architect Josep Torrents is to represent Catalonia at the 14th Venice Architecture Biennale with a project based on the work of Jujol
Architect Josep Torrents is to be the curator representing Catalonia at the next Venice Architecture Biennale with the project Of the Fragment and the Whole. This is the decision of the independent panel of experts that at the request of the IRL had to choose a curator for Catalan participation in Venice. Of the Fragment and of the Whole illustrates the fundamental capability of Catalan architecture to fuse the new with the old. Josep Torrents starts with Jujol's Casa Bofarull (els Pallaresos, Tarragonès) to highlight a connecting thread of Catalan architecture that he also re-encounters in a series of later works, like the Study Centre of the Megalithic Tumulus/Dolmen of Seró, in Artesa de Segre, by Toni Gironés architect's studio or La Lira, a public facility in Ripoll, by RCR Arquitectes + Joan Puigcorbé.
