Institut Ramon LLull

The Institut Ramon Llull is holding the 35th International Catalan Teachers’ Conference between 19th and 22nd July

Language.  VALENCIA, 19/07/2021

For the second year running, the Conference, which was to be held at the University of València, will take place online.

The International Catalan Teachers’ Conference is the main training opportunity for teachers in the university network for Catalan studies abroad. They are also a space for meeting, debate and reflection in order to share projects and teaching experiences, with the goal of increasing shared knowledge and contributing to improving teaching quality.

There will be several workshops, presentations and talks as part of the programme. A space will be dedicated to reflecting on the transformation throughout the pandemic that the teaching of Catalan studies in universities has undergone. There will also be a focus on new teaching strategies for teaching language, dealing with culture from different angles and new tools and resources for online teaching.

Despite being held online, València will be very much present at the Conference. Carme Gregori, professor at the University of València and member of the Institut Interuniversitari de Filologia Valenciana, will be tasked with delivering the inaugural talk about the writer and essayist Joan Fuster, ‘Complicit irony: the aphorisms of Joan Fuster’. Also, there will be a virtual visit to the Espai Joan Fuster led by Salvador Ortells and to the Catalonia in Venice – air/aria/aire Exhibition, Evento Collaterale de la Biennale Architettura 2021, courtesy of Olga Subirós, architect and curator of the exhibition.

Around 100 teachers of Catalan studies in universities in 25 countries around the world will attend and participate in the 35th International Catalan Teachers’ Conference.
