TRAC, the database of translations from Catalan, reaches 5,000 translations

Literature.  17/02/2020

TRAC stands for "traducccions del català a altres llengües" (translations from Catalan into other languages). It is made up of the databases of the Institució de les Lletres Catalanes and the Institut Ramon Llull, which is now responsible for managing and updating the database. Additionally, the TRAC has had new tools added recently, such as the translation map or the rankings for the most translated authors and books.

The most translated fiction titles from Catalan

The most widely translated book is Rodoreda's La Plaça del Diamant (In Diamond Square), with 36 translations. It is followed by La pell freda (Cold Skin), by Albert Sánchez Piñol, with 32 translations. Jaume Cabré's Jo confesso (Confessions) comes in third with over 20 translations, and followed by titles such as Tirant lo Blanc, by Joanot Martorell, Camí de sirga (The Towpath), by Jesús Moncada, and La magnitud de la tragèdia (The Enormity of the Tragedy), by Quim Monzó, with over 15 translations each.

Childrens' and Young Adult Fiction

Over the past year, the Ramon Llull Institute has paid special attention to children's literature, adding a large number of titles to the database. Some of the most widely translated works here are El monstre de colors (The Colour Monster), by Anna Llenes, De quin color és un petó (What Colour Is a Kiss?), by Rocio Bonilla, and Agus i els monstres (Alex and the Monsters), by Jaume Copons, among others.
