The international congress Napoli all’epoca di Llull (Naples in Llull’s Lifetime), celebrates Llull Year from an Italian perspective

The Università degli Studi Suor Orsola Benincasa and the Archivo di Stato di Napoli are holding the international congress Llull: Filosofia, Filologia, Pedagogia, Storia. Napoli all’epoca di Llull from 20th November to 3rd December. This will bring about thirty experts to Naples to discuss the different aspects of Llull’s work, a figure whose importance was on a par with the Italian Dante Alighieri.

Llull Year: Symposiums in Birmingham and Oxford to commemorate 700 years of the death of Ramon Llull

The celebration of Llull Year in 2016 commemorates the seventh centenary of the death of extraordinary thinker Ramon Llull and provides an opportunity to showcase the importance of his contribution to the world and his influence on numerous European intellectuals. In November the Universities of Oxford and Birmingham mark this occasion with two symposiums and an exhibition.

Joan Margarit, Joaquim Nadal and Pere Villalba take the Llull Year to the Óbidos International Literature Festival

From 22nd September to 2nd October the Óbidos International Literature Festival, in Portugal, will be holding its second edition, commemorating the 500th anniversary of the publication of Thomas More’s Utopia. The festival also remembers the 700th anniversary of the death of Ramon Llull, and it has invited Joan Margarit, Joaquim Nadal and Pere Villalba to take part in three conversations and poetry readings along with different Portuguese writers on 30th September.

Fifty students from all over the world took part in the Wiki marathon ‘Who’s Afraid of Ramon Llull?’, organized by the Institut Ramon Llull in collaboration with the Amical Wikipedia association. All in all, ten articles in different languages were expanded and improved, especially the versions in Romanian, Serbian and Hungarian. The University of Modena, in Italy, is organizing a study symposium on Ramon Llull

On 3rd May the University of Modena will be holding a Lullian Symposium, that is, a study session dedicated to the dissemination of the books and philosophy of Ramon Llull. The event, which is part of the events organized for Llull Year, will consist chiefly of about ten lectures on the subject of Llull given by Catalan and Italian academics, as well as a guided tour of the Estense University Library’s Llull collection in Modena.

On 22nd March the artist Miquel Barceló will inaugurate a gigantic fresco in Paris, 190 metres long by 6 metres high, drawn with mud on one of the glass walls of the inner courtyard of the National Library of France (BNF), in what will be one of the most important international events of the 700th anniversary of the Majorcan philosopher organized by the Institut Ramon Llull.
