Xavier Pla

Xavier Pla (Girona, 1966) is a Professor of Contemporary Catalan Literature at the Universitat de Girona, where he holds the Josep Pla Chair in Literature and Journalism. He obtained a doctorate in Comparative Literature from the Sorbonne Université of Paris in 1996. He has published studies on authors such as Joan Sales, Mercè Rodoreda, Marcel Proust, Jorge Semprún and Claudio Magris. A specialist in Josep Pla, his essay Josep Pla, Autobiographical Fiction and Literary Truth won him the 1998 Serra d’Or Prize. He has also edited the original Catalan manuscript of two historical essays by Josep Pla. In 2015 he was awarded the Catalan Government’s National Culture Prize.
