Joan-Carles Mèlich (Barcelona, 1961) holds a Doctorate in Philosophy and Literature from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where he teaches Philosophy of Education. He has written numerous essays on philosophy, ethics and pedagogy. He has developed an anthropological philosophy of finitude in its various expressions. He has also reflected on the witness as a key figure in any educational relationship, studying the accounts of survivors of Nazi extermination camps such as Primo Levi, Elie Wiesel and Jorge Semprún. He has directed Fragmenta’s Biblioteca de Pensament Contemporani collection since its creation in 2021. His essay The Fragility of the World won the 2022 National Essay Prize.
