Fiction
Armand is a widower who has just become a grandfather, and the only man in his local yoga class, where he meets Elena. Initially, their romance unfolds as if they were veteran thespians who knew exactly what to do. Yet soon it comes up against the realities of Elena’s stagnant marriage to a poet whose literary star has waned. Both Armand and Elena will experience shifts that stir up decades of unresolved, complex emotions.
This is a moving short novel that deals with the complexities of human relationships in subtle detail, examining the trade-offs we make over the course of our lives and the toll they take on us. The chapters alternate between Armand’s first-person narrative, and Elena’s third-person, giving readers a privileged glimpse into the stirrings of new hope and clarity they find, along with the courage to acknowledge the possibilities still available to them in the autumn of their lives.
