Solitud

Solitude

Víctor Català (Caterina Albert i Paradís)

A novel of self-discovery amid the exuberance of nature.

Solitude tells the story of Mila, a young woman who moves into the mountains with her apathetic husband. Caretakers of a lonely hermitage, Mila is driven to the verge of a mental breakdown. She struggles to find a way out of her dissatisfaction in that setting, untamed both in reality and symbolically, and filled with erotic insinuations. Subject to Freudian and feminist interpretations, Solitude is one of the most universally treasured novels in Catalan literature.

David H. Rosenthal on 'Solitude'

«For such poetic intensity, mythic richness, and psychological insight, Solitude deserves to be listed with the great novels of its era.»
