Don Osito Marquina is the name of a little teddy bear that Salvador Dalí’s parents brought home from Paris for their two little boys. Now it is the title of a picture book that is a brief diary beautifully illustrated by Zuzanna Celej, telling the story about the little stuffed bear.
The Dalí brothers welcomed the bear as one more member of the family. When the poet García Lorca visited the family, he realized just how much he meant to them and chose to name him.
Mr. Marquina the Bear and later on would send him letters and post cards. In 1987 Dalí donated the teddy bear to the Museu del Joguet in Figueres where, still today, it occupies a special place in that toy museum.
