The Catalan band Manel are to give a talk on 16th February at the University of Manchester and on 19th February at the University of Glasgow. The talk is aimed mainly at students of Catalan at both universities. As well as talking to students, the group will give a concert for the general public of these two cities: on 17th February in Manchester and 19th February in Glasgow. The aim of these concerts is to promote the Catalan music outside the academic sphere in these two important centres in the global music scene. You will find the details of each concert on the attached poster.
On the evening of Thursday, 19th November, the Instituto Cervantes in London will host a Catalan poetry reading organized by the Institut Ramon Llull in conjunction with Professor Robert Archer from King’s College London and the Instituto Cervantes.
The Catalan language will be present at The Language Show, the international language fair that is taking place from 30th October to 1st November at the Olympia Exhibition Centre in London. The Catalan language will be represented by a stand run by the Institut Ramon Llull (IRL), which is attending the fair for the third year running.
The Saltburn Gallery will host the exhibition From Catalunya to Cleveland, with work by the artists Oriol Mora and Carles Guitart, until 22nd November. This brings together a series of pictures inspired by Barcelona, where they both live. Throughout their careers, both artists have exhibited abroad to critical acclaim and won various prizes. The show has received the support of the Institut Ramon Llull.
Paul Preston takes part in a debate on the collective memory
The project, which takes place from July 18th to September 20th, revolves around the concept of past, present and future and includes the involvement of artists from around the world. The curators are Nav Haq and Latitudes (Marina Cápena Luna and Max Andrews). The Institut Ramon Llull collaborates with the participation of the artist Francesc Ruiz.
Four Catalan circus and theater companies participate this year in the event Watch This Space, from August 26th to 28th, with the support of the Institut Ramon Llull. The National Theater in London organizes every year from July to September this event, which has become one of the main outdoor festivals in the United Kingdom.
The English edition of the book has been published with the help of the Institut Ramon Llull
On 5th June the seminar “The intersection of Poetry and Architecture in Catalonia” took place at the University of Birmingham in collaboration with the Institut Ramon Llull
Sixty young people from London's Cañada Blanch school participated in the first day session involving the writer Maite Carranza in London, with a dramatised reading of her novel The War of the Witches, which is published in English by Bloomsbury.
