From 12 to 21 September 2025, southern England will host a new edition of the international festival Inside Out Dorset, a biennial event that transforms natural landscapes and heritage sites into open stages for art and reflection. In this edition, the festival will feature a prominent Catalan and Balearic presence, with the programming of four street theatre companies and a programme of professional activities involving eight additional companies.
The proposals representing Catalan creativity in this edition are:
- Joan Català with Idiòfona, a piece that fuses artisanal gesture and movement into a choreography of effort and collaboration.
- Toc de Fusta with Arrels, an interactive and poetic installation inviting the audience to rediscover their connections with nature and memory.
- Cia. D’Es Tro with Poi, a contemporary circus performance inspired by rural traditions and popular dances.
- Eva Marichalar-Freixa & Jordi Duran i Roldós with Dorsetborn’s We Fear Episode 5: Leviathan, a performative proposal exploring the boundaries of fear and vulnerability.
The programme of Inside Out Dorset 2025 includes large-scale installations, sound walks and stage performances reflecting on the themes of Nature, Landscape and Climate. The festival seeks to create a local impact with an international outlook, offering free and immersive experiences for all kinds of audiences.
The participation of the four Catalan companies in the festival has been made possible thanks to the support of the Institut Ramon Llull, through its international programming grant scheme; at the same time, the Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies (ICEC) coordinates the Catalan professional activity linked to the festival and has organised an online pitching session for eight companies before professionals from around the world, as well as an additional networking action that includes exclusive performances for the programmers and professionals scheduled to attend the shows by Joan Català, Cia. D’Es Tro and Toc de Fusta.
The eight companies participating in the professional programme coordinated by ICEC are: Cris Clown; Eléctrico 28; Hermanas Picohueso; Moon Ribas & Quim Girón; Nacho Flores; Sergi Estebanell; Vero Cendoya; and Xumo Nunjio & Jim Parris. The selection of companies has been made by a committee formed by Inside Out Dorset, Fira Tàrrega, Trapezi and Sismògraf.
With this collaboration, the Institut Ramon Llull and ICEC reaffirm their commitment to enhancing the international projection of Catalan performing arts, consolidating Catalonia’s creative presence in leading cultural circuits across Europe.
