02/07/2025

The Palau del Baró de Quadras is hosting two events as part of Grec Pro: a round table on the internationalisation of playwriting, and a meeting with the partners of the European project Fabulamundi, who are in Barcelona for the Sala Beckett’s Obrador d’Estiu.

The Institut Ramon Llull is organising a round table this Wednesday, 2nd July, within the framework of Grec Pro. Entitled How to Live Together? Playwriting Beyond Borders, it will feature contributions from Marcia Dias, curator and producer of cultural projects and director of the Núcleo de Brasil network; Gonzalo Amorim, director of the Festival Internacional de Teatro de Expressão Ibérica (Porto); and Cecilia Kuska, artistic director of the Festival Próximamente-KVS (Brussels), with moderation by Manuel Pérez, director of Entreacte.

The discussion will focus on the internationalisation of text-based theatre and explore how its programming might be facilitated on the international stage.

Besides IRL Director Pere Almeda, among those attending the talk will be the Director of the Creative Area, Maria Lladó, and the Director of the Grec Festival, Leticia Martín, who will welcome the attendees. Representatives of the most prominent institutions, theatres, and associations in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands will also be present, including Nèlida Falcó, Director of the Performing Arts Area at ICEC; Carme Portaceli, Director of the TNC, and Xavier Pujolràs, Assistant Programme Director at the TNC; Toni Casares, Director of Sala Beckett, and Víctor Muñoz, Director of International Relations; Tania Brenlle, Director of La Villarroel; Ferran Murillo, Artistic Director of Teatre Tantarantana; Marina Marcos, President of OTB; Ángel Murcia, Performing Arts Manager at the SGAE; Roger Torns, representing the Catalan Playwrights’ Association; and Miquel Mas Fiol, President of ADIB (Association of Playwrights of the Balearic Islands).

Marcia Dias is an independent producer who works with the Núcleo de Brasil network, one of the key players in Brazil’s cultural scene. Established in 2003, it is a network of international performing arts festivals in Brazil that work cooperatively to promote and support the performing arts within the country.

Gonzalo Amorim is the Artistic Director of the Festival Internacional de Teatro de Expressão Ibérica in Portugal and was previously part of the Útero group, the Teatro o Bando cooperative, and the Primeiros Sintomas group.

Cecilia Kuska, Artistic Director of the Próximamente-KVS Festival in Brussels, has worked as a creative producer, artist manager, and project programmer in Argentina, Chile, Belgium, Italy, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

On Friday, 4th July, the IRL headquarters will also host a reception for a group of alumni from the Netherlands, who are visiting Barcelona under the leadership of the Grand Theatre of Groningen. Around fifteen alumni from Club LinC’s cultural leadership programme will be welcomed by representatives of the Institut, who will introduce them to the consortium’s work in promoting Catalan culture internationally.

Furthermore, on Wednesday, 9th July, the IRL headquarters will once again host a reception, this time for partners of the European project Fabulamundi, in a gathering co-organised with Sala Beckett, a project partner.

Fabulamundi Playwriting Europe is a cooperative initiative between theatres, festivals, and organisations from various European countries. The current edition of the project, titled New Voices, spans three years (2023–2025) and aims to bring contemporary playwriting closer to younger generations. Through workshops, expert meetings, and showcases—always placing young people at the heart of the process—Fabulamundi seeks to foster adolescents’ engagement with creative writing, while reinforcing the international community of playwrights cultivated in previous editions.

This edition has featured a total of 19 authors, including two from Catalonia: Oriol Morales i Pujolar and Helena Tornero.

The gathering at the Institut forms part of the partners’ visit to Barcelona, marking the conclusion of the current edition during the Sala Beckett’s Obrador d’Estiu.
