The English town of Great Yarmouth, home each year to the renowned international Out There Festival, is also this year hosting Fresh Street, the professional gathering for the development of Street Arts organised biennially by Circostrada, the European network for contemporary circus and street arts. Both events will feature a prominent Catalan presence, through the Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies (ICEC) and the Institut Ramon Llull (IRL).

From 28 to 31 May, the Out There street arts and circus festival—one of the most significant events on the international scene—will be held in Great Yarmouth and will include performances by four companies from Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. The Festival is a member of Circostrada, the European network for contemporary circus and street arts, which every two years, in conjunction with an event hosted by one of its members, organises Fresh Street, a major professional encounter. This year, the English city will welcome around 400 professionals –among which is a large Catalan delegation– to debate and discuss the future of street arts.

To give visibility to the delegation of some thirty professionals from Catalan companies travelling to the event, ICEC is organising a networking activity on Thursday 29 May. This event will allow artists, Catalan professionals, representatives from the strategic street arts market Fira Tàrrega, and members of the Catalan Circus Professionals Association (APCC) to interact with international delegates, primarily from the United Kingdom but also from countries such as Germany, Belgium, France, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, and Sweden, among others.

The IRL is supporting the companies performing at the Festival through its programmes to promote the international programming of artists from Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. On this occasion, the companies are Cia Los Galindos with their show MDR; Kamchàtka with the piece of the same name, Solarte Producciones with Miss Margherita and Siku, and the Balearic company La Mecànica with A Teen Odyssey. In recent years, the English festival has established its role as an influential voice in the UK and a player of international importance. In 2018, it featured six companies from Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.

The participation of Catalan professionals and companies in the Out There Festival and Fresh Street forms part of the actions carried out by the Department of Culture to promote the international presence of Catalan performing arts and to support their positioning on the global stage.
