Rita Payés, protagonist of the opening concert of the Festival cinEScultura in Ratisbona

17/03/2025

The film festival, which has been held in the German city for 18 years, dedicates half of its Opera Prima section to Catalan productions.

The 18th edition of the festival cinEScultura will begin with a performance by Rita Payés Trio at Theater Regensburg. To mark the start of the festival, which coincides with the celebration of Sant Jordi, the Catalan artist will present her new work, De Camino al Camino, in the German city. This latest work is the most personal of her career so far and metaphorically focuses on life: where we come from, where we are going... The path of a technical yet emotional artist, rooted in a tradition that she transforms into something eclectic and innovative.

The festival cinEScultura reaches its 18th edition this year. In the Opera Prima section, designed to support and promote the first works of young filmmakers while always adhering to gender parity criteria, three titles from Catalan production companies or linked to Catalan culture have been scheduled.

On 27 April, Domingo Domingo, by Valencian director Laura García Andreu, will be screened. The following day, Upon Entry, by Alejandro Rojas, will be shown. Finally, on 29 April, From My Cold Dead Hands, by Javier Horcajada, will be available for viewing.

Additionally, a photography exhibition has been scheduled, featuring images of the floods that hit Valencia last November, accompanied by a performance by Valencian singer-songwriter Saül Vanaclocha, in an event where donations will also be collected for those affected by the cut-off low (DANA). There will also be a showcase celebrating the festival’s 18 years, where parts of two Catalan exhibitions that were brought to Ratisbona in 2014 and 2016 will be displayed again. Specifically, the comic exhibition Se acabaron las vacas gordas (featuring works by Max, Miguel Gallardo, and Aleix Saló), and the design and graphic arts exhibition Mariscal World, featuring works by Javier Mariscal.

cinEScultura has been held annually in Ratisbona since 2007 as a joint project between the association Arbeitskreis Film Regensburg e. V. and the Centre for Hispanic Studies at the University of Ratisbona. Over the years, this annual event, which connects the university with the local community, has grown and expanded into areas beyond cinema.
