The presentation will take place on Thursday, 12 December, at 7:00 PM and will feature contributions from Camille Robcis, along with the co-curators of the New York exhibition, Edward Dioguardi and Valérie Rousseau.
This publication marks the conclusion of the series of activities associated with the exhibition Francesc Tosquelles: Psiquiatria d'avantguarda i el naixement de l'art brut (Francesc Tosquelles: Avant-Garde Psychiatry and the Birth of Art Brut) which was held at the American Folk Art Museum from 12 April to 18 August.
The work, published by the museum itself with the support of the Institut Ramon Llull, brings together critical essays by various authors under the editorship of Joana Masó, Carles Guerra, Valérie Rousseau, Edward Dioguardi, and Margarita Sánchez Urdaneta.
This is the first academic publication in English focused on the figure of Tosquelles, featuring essays and research on his pioneering practices to advocate for individuals living with mental health challenges, improve the lives of patients in psychiatric institutions, and expose the pathological effects of European fascism. The curators of the exhibition —Valérie Rousseau, Joana Masó, Carles Guerra, Edward Dioguardi— contribute to the book, which also features texts by Mireille Berton, Christophe Boulanger, Kaira M. Cabañas, Éric Fassin, Savine Faupin, Jean Khalfa, Raphaël Koenig, Sarah Lombardi, Josée Manenti, Julien Michel, W.J.T. Mitchell, Paul B. Preciado, Alejandra Riera, Camille Robcis, Mireia Sallarès, Martin Summers, Annabelle Ténèze and Tosquelles himself.
