Alba Carmona presents “Cantora” at Lincoln Center in New York

07/11/2024

The singer-songwriter is set to perform on 16 November at the David Rubenstein Atrium in Lincoln Center, New York, as part of the presentation of her second solo album, Cantora. This performance is co-organized by the Institute Ramon Llull and the Lincoln Center and has the support of the Ministry of Culture. Before this performance, on 14 November the artist will also present Cantora at The Local Saugerties in New York.

Throughout her 20-year career, Alba Carmona has performed on numerous stages worldwide, participated in flamenco and jazz collaborations with artists such as saxophonist Perico Sambeat and flamenco pianist Chano Domínguez, and served as the lead vocalist for Las Migas.

Her second solo album, Cantora, pays homage to the legacy of recorded sound and honour the depth and distinctiveness of music conveyed through oral tradition. In her concert, Carmona will take us on a journey through her flamenco roots and an extensive repertoire of folk songs. She will perform both her original pieces and carefully arranged pieces, exploring how these songs have evolved across the globe.

Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts is a complex comprising 11 New York City arts organizations, including the Lincoln Center Theater, the Juilliard School, the New York City Ballet, the New York Opera, and the New York Philharmonic.

The Institut Ramon Llull has collaborated with Lincoln Center for several decades. In 2009, the IRL organized the “Catalan Days” conference in multiple venues throughout New York City, which included the “Clandestí: Forbidden Catalan Cinema Under Franco”. And there have been other collaborations since then, including the presentation act of “Montsalvatge Days” in 2012 and La Petita Malumaluga's performance of her show, The Moon in a Pot (a misunderstood show), at the Clark Studio Theater in the Lincoln Center in 2023. Last year, La Sra Tomasa performed at the Summer for the City festival outside Lincoln Center. This performance is the result of the IRL's constant contact with those responsible for programming at the New York facility and has the support of the Ministry of Culture.
