Alba G. Corral, star of the Sonica Glasgow Festival 2024

She will be performing live in the Scottish premiere of “Become Ocean”, a musical composition by John Luther Adams that will be played by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and conducted by Clark Rundell.




On 28 September, the biennial Sonica Glasgow festival will host the Scottish première of John Luther Adams’ 2014 Pulitzer Prize-winning composition "Become Ocean", performed for the occasion by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO). who will create a truly immersive experience by painting large-scale kaleidoscopic digital landscapes in real time, accompanying the music. This intervention is a continuation of the artist's successful collaboration with the RSNO at the same festival in 2022.

Within the Sonica framework, Alba G. Corral will conduct a two-day workshop titled ‘Visualising Music’ where participants will learn to create generative graphics through code using the versatile Processing software, which combines sketchbook and programming language in the context of the visual arts.

Participants will acquire a foundational knowledge of processing, acquire basic programming concepts, and deepen their knowledge on creating visual images and generative graphics with a focus on 'art code'.

Alba G. Corral is receiving support from the Institut Ramon Llull, which has established a new grant programme aimed at promoting creators of Catalan culture in major international festivals, biennials, and installations in the fields of visual arts, design, and architecture.

Sonica Glasgow is an 11-day biennial festival dedicated to music from around the world at its intersection with the visual arts and sound art. This year’s festival will run from 19 to 29 September and feature outstanding creators from the United Kingdom together with exceptional international artists, in different venues around the city and covering different disciplines such as visual music, sound, and digital arts. Since its inception in 2012, Sonica Glasgow has presented over 1,180 events across the city and beyond, reaching over 206,000 people and winning multiple awards and accolades.

Born in Madrid in 1977, and established in La Ràpita, Alba G. Corral is a visual artist, code developer and teacher. With a background in computer engineering, Corral has been creating art using the software for the past decade. She is known for her live audiovisual performances where she integrates coding and drawing in real time in collaboration with musicians such as Jon Hopkins, Miguel Marin (also known as Arbol), Fibla and Stendhal Syndrome. Corral's work has been seen at festivals and events such as Future Everything, Alphaville Festiva, Sonar, Primavera Sound and LEV.
