This scholarship is aimed at doctoral students and is endowed with €20,000.

For the fourth consecutive year, The Institut Ramon Llull, together with the North American Catalan Society (NACS), announce a doctoral scholarship to support a research project in the field of Catalan studies during the 2024-2025 academic year and to encourage the development of Catalan studies at universities in Canada or the United States.

This scholarship is intended for doctoral students who are being trained at universities outside the regions where Catalan is spoken. The amount of the scholarship is €20,000 – funds to be confirmed.

Requirements:

  • be enrolled in a PhD program at a university in Canada or the United States with a successful track record at that institution.
  • a thesis project related to Catalan language, literature, and/or culture.

The application must include:

  • a cover letter, with a maximum length of 1,000 words, explaining the research objectives and viability
  • a curriculum vitae.
  • a copy of the academic file (transcripts).
  • a letter of recommendation (in Catalan, Spanish, or English) from a professor at the candidate’s home university certifying the candidate’s academic skills and commitment to overseeing the project.

A NACS committee will evaluate the applications and recommend a finalist to the Institut Ramon Llull. The committee will consider the applicant’s academic background, the quality of each project, and the feasibility of carrying it out during the grant period.

Please send applications to the NACS secretary, Anna Casas Aguilar (secretarinacs@gmail.com), before May 15, 2024. The decision will be announced in June 2024
