Catalan & Balearic Performing Arts in Chile: 8 companies and more than 20 professionals to participate in festivals Teatro a Mil and Santiago Off

Artists, programmers and distributors from Catalan & Balearic performing arts participate at the current editions of Teatro a Mil and Santiago OFF, two internationally renowned festivals that present every January theatre, dance, circus and street arts in different cities in Chile.




The Catalan Ministry of Culture, through The Institut Ramon Llull (IRL) and the Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies (ICEC), has organized a Catalan delegation to International Festival Teatro a Mil and International Festival Santiago Off happening in Chile in January.

Eight companies from Catalonia and the Balearic Islands are part of the program of these festivals and will carry out forty performances in different cities and stages. The artists are Pau Aran, Sarruga, Insectotròpics, Hotel Iocandi, Ça Marche, Tshock Cultural Emocional, Hermanas Picohueso (in production with Chilean Teatro Bruma), and Reinaldo Ribeiro. The remarkable presence of Catalan companies performing at the two festivals, and the collaboration established by the IRL and Festival Teatro a Mil, have been used to arrange a Catalan delegation formed by more than 20 professionals from the performing arts field. They will participate in the professional programs of these festivals, two ideal places to generate new opportunities for international promotion. From January 17 to 22, Platea 23, la Setmana de Programadors de Teatro a Mil, and from January 23 to 26, the professional meetings of Santiago OFF.

The ICEC, through Catalan Arts, organized an Open Call for the performing arts field. The delegation is formed by professionals from FiraTàrrega, Festival Grec, Danseu Festival, l’Autèntica, La Central del Circ, and Sala Fènix, among others.

The director of Nau Ivanow, David Marin, who has worked on several artistic projects in Chile, is curating the agenda of side activities for the Catalan delegation in Santiago. It has been planned encounters and visits with Catalan professionals and key agents of the Chilean scene are planned, as well as meetings at an institutional level among delegates from ICEC and IRL, the Government of Chile and the City Council of Santiago.

On January 19th, within Platea 23, Catalan Arts organizes a “Catalan Night” at GAM, the main cultural equipment of the city and hub of the festival: a meeting point to facilitate networking among Catalan and international professionals.

The mission also will provide an occasion to make the first contact with Latin American agents and find future collaborations for the implementation of the internationalization measure of the Integral Plan for Theatre to be developed between 2023 and 2026.
