Institut Ramon LLull

A worm’s tail view is often the true one: a retrospective of films by Pere Portabella in London and Cambridge

Cinema.  London / Cambridge, 21/02/2020

The most ambitious, creative and complete international retrospective of works by Pere Portabella will tour London’s most engaged cultural institutions from 26 November 2019 to 15 February 2020. Programme supported by the Institut Ramon Llull, showing at Close-Up Film Centre, Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA), Whitechapel Gallery, Brixton Prison, Cafe Oto, BFI Southbank, Low Company and University of Cambridge.

Responding first in violent poetic resistance to a Franco-occupied Spain, Catalan filmmaker Pere Portabella continues to understand the cinematic medium as intervention; as a forum for political debate and participation.

With exclusive participation from Albert Serra, Ben Rivers, Colm Tóibín, Jonathan Rosenbaum, Irene Solà, and many more.

Curated and produced by the Liberated Film Club in collaboration with the Institut Ramon Llull with the support of Low Company, XXX, Catalan Films & tv, Filmoteca Española, ICAA and Films 59. Presented in partnership with eight UK venues: Close-Up Film Centre (HQ), Institute of Contemporary Arts, Whitechapel Gallery, Brixton Prison, Cafe Oto, BFI Southbank, Low Company, University of Cambridge.
