Correntes d’Escritas is a literary festival founded in 2000 in Póvoa de Varzim, to mark the centenary of the death of José María Eça de Querioz, born in Póvoa. Since then, it has gained prominence year after year, becoming the most popular literary festival in the country, with thousands of people attending. Authors such as Mila Couto, Ana Luís Amaral, Luís Sepúlveda, Rui Zink, Lídia Jorge and Manuel Rui have passed through him, among others. Historically focused on literature in Spanish and Portugese, this year has decided to take a step further and focus centered on Catalan literature.
The Catalan authors that will take part in this edition of the festival are: Najat El Hachmi, Marta Orriols, Tina Vallès and Melcior Comes. Also, there will be an exhibition on the relationship between catalan and portuguese literature by Julià Guillamon. On this occasion with an addition on the relationship between Catalan literatura and Portugal. The opening will be on February 18.
The main goal is to increase the number of translations of Works into portuguese language.
