Seminar: "Word Houses: Dictionaries, Archives, Libraries and Beyond"

Thought.  London,  10/06/2019

A series of conferences exploring how language shapes our worlds where attendees will have the possibility to reflect on how dictionaries, grammars, archives, collections, books and libraries affect our cognitive processes.

The Knowledge Centre at the British Library will host the seminar "Word Houses: Dictionaries, Archives, Libraries and Beyond" next Monday, 10th of June, from 2pm.

The seminar will explore the importance of the house of words we create. It follows the premise that words, grammars and collections shape, structure and consolidate our realities, worlds of possibilities and memories. But how does the way in which we house words matter "at a time when texts are spawned and stowed in virtually limitless variations"?

The first panel, on grammars and dictionaries, will count with the participation of Maria Rosa Lloret, Professor of Catalan Philology at the University of Barcelona and an expert on variation in linguistics.

You can find the full programme and buy your tickets at the event's website.

This activity has been co-organised by the British Library and the UCL European Institute, and supported by the Institut Ramon Llull.
