Catalan representatives at prestigious Sundance Film Festival

Cinema.  24/02/2019

The Sundance Film Festival, held this year from 24 January to 3 February in Utah, featuring Catalan films with support from IRL. The festival has selected the Catalan film Paradise Hills to participate in the Next category, Adalamadrina in the International Short Films category and Knockstrike in Animated Short Films. It is a world-renowned independent film festival, featuring 73 shorts from 33 different countries.

The Sundance Film Festival takes place each year in Park City, Utah. It was created in 1978, with Robert Redford at the helm to attract professionals in the sector. Over this time, it has consolidated its position as the most influential festival in international independent cinema. The programme features documentaries and feature films from emerging and consolidated filmmakers, as well as forums for professionals, concerts, art installations and activities for students.

The festival has several categories, some of which are competitions (U.S. Dramatic Competition, U.S. Documentary Competition, World Cinema Dramatic Competition, World Cinema Documentary Competition, etc.) and others that are not. The shorts category is a competition open to animated short films, fictional short films from the United States, and international fiction and documentary shorts. In addition to the panel of judges for the various competitive categories, the audience also gives out several awards. 73 shorts from 33 countries will be shown at the festival, after being selected from the 9,433 applicants.

The festival is a unique opportunity to make international contacts, as well as continuing to disseminate Catalan audiovisual work on the American continent after Catalonia was the guest of honour at the Guadalajara International Film Festival.
