Mal Pelo performs at the Montreal Agora de la danse

Performing.  Montreal, Canada,  21/11/2018

Directed by Pep Ramis and María Muñoz and with support from the Institut Ramon Llull, the Mal Pelo company will present “The Mountain, the Truth & the Paradise” at the Agora de la danse in Montreal from November 21-24. The performances are part of the “Culture Catalane" cycle, which will take place between September 2018 and July 2019 at performing arts venues across Montreal and Saguenay and aims to promote Catalan cultural activities.

In Pep Ramis’ solo piece, “The Mountain, the Truth & the Paradise,” the audience engages with the artist’s highly personal vision, which delves into his artistic tendencies and sheds new light on his most recent work. Spirituality and the tragedy of the human condition are the cornerstones of this piece, which uses humor to comment on the foibles of humanity. The work will be performed at 7 pm from November 21-23 and 4 pm on November 24.

Since 1989, the Mal Pelo group has crafted an artistic vocabulary steeped in movement, theatre, and the spoken word while collaborating with video artists and composers to create original soundtracks for their works.

The Agora de la danse aims to promote research, creation and dissemination of contemporary dance. For over 25 years, it has been at the forefront of the choreographic and artistic movement in Montreal. In addition to promoting dance and performance, the Agora has co-produced cutting-edge pieces, focusing primarily on Canadian work while showcasing innovative international artists. This year’s international program has featured Catalan artists, dance and performing arts thanks to a strategic partnership between the Institut Ramon Llull and the Agora. Indeed, this year’s season debuted with Roger Bernat’s The Rite of Spring, featuring Stravinsky’s celebrated score and Pina Bausch’s legendary choreography, which was first performed in 1975.

Culture Catalane” will stage cultural events at venues across Montreal and Saguenay between September 2018 and July 2019. The program encompasses literature, music, dance, film, circus, theatre and the visual arts. The Institut Ramon Llull has worked hand in hand with various festivals and events in Quebec, including the Festival international de la littérature (where Catalan literature is this year’s guest of honor), the Agora de la danse, the Casal de Catalunya a Mont-real, the Quartiers danses Festival, the REGARD Festival international du court métrage and the Festival international des arts de la marionnette à Saguenay.

The Institut Ramon Llull

is a consortium that comprises the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia), Balearic Islands Government and the Barcelona City Council, and its mission is the promotion of Catalan language and culture abroad.
