Anglo-Catalan Society Holds 64th Annual Congress at University of Bristol

Language.  Bristol, 09/11/2018

The University of Bristol will host the Anglo-Catalan Society’s Annual Congress from 9th – 11th November. The programme of this 64th edition includes a great variety of topics, including forays into fields like literature, translation and architecture, with Catalan culture as the common denominator. This year, special attention will be paid to the political situation in Catalonia and the speakers include Clara Ponsatí. Writer Sebastià Alzamora will close the discussions with the RIMAT poetry recital.

The three days of the Anglo-Catalan Society Annual Conference will feature around 30 activities, mostly blocks of short talks on various subjects given by professors and researchers at various universities in Catalonia and the United Kingdom: “Peace and conflicte”, “Applied Linguistics”, “Resistance during Franco’s Regime”, “Sociolinguistics”, “Gender and Cultural Expression”, “Approaches to Poetry”, “Other Landscapes”, “Framing the Republic”, “Architecture and History”, “Literary Theory and Practice” and “Performance and Drama”.

One of the highlights is the ‘RIMAT’ (Readings in Memory of Arthur Terry) poetry recital given by Sebastià Alzamora, responsible for closing the ceremonies.

The Anglo-Catalan Society was founded in Oxford in 1954 to promote the knowledge and appreciation of Catalan culture in the British Isles and to develop cultural relations between both communities. The association is a professional forum for those involved in Catalan studies, and is open to anyone who shares its founding missions.

Please see the attached programme for all the Anglo-Catalan Society presentations.
