Majorcan group Zulu Zulu takes its African rhythms to Chile

Music.  Recoleta, Chile, 16/02/2018

The fourth edition of the Womad Chile Festival, which takes place in the Chilean city of Recoleta on February 16, 17 and 18, will host the performance of the Mallorcan Zulu Zulu group. On the first day of the festival, the band will present Defensa Zebra, its debut album published in 2017.

They had never set foot in Africa – at least not before releasing their first disc, Defensa Zebra (2017). But the three members of Zulu Zulu had enough imagination to recreate, from a distance and in their own particular way, the classic sounds of the African continent combined with pop.

Miquel Mesquida, Miquel Perelló and Pep Toni Ferrer formed the group three years ago in Majorca. Recently, in 2017, they released a debut disc that includes African music sung using onomatopoeias mixed with electronic and psychedelic music.

Zulu Zulu is a three-piece band from Majorca that combines African rhythms with pop melodies: progressive pop-rock with splashes of psychedelia tinged with African rhythms.

The Festival was created 34 years ago with the desire to consolidate a multicultural meeting point for music, art and dance.
