Cinema.  Berlin, 15/02/2018

Five Catalan productions will have a space at the 68th edition of the Berlinale, the Berlin International Film Festival, which will be held in the German capital from 15 to 25 February 2018. To be shown are Sunday’s Illness by Ramón Salazar, Thirty Souls by Diana Toucedo, Meritxell Colell’s debut film Facing the Wind and the film Theatre of War by Lola Arias. The Bookshop by Isabel Coixet will have its international premiere at the Berlinale Special Gala.

The Bookshop by Isabel Coixet (Diagonal Televisió, Zephyr Films, A Contracorriente Films, One Two Films, Green Films AIE, Northern Ireland Screen) will be the main attraction at this year’s edition of the Berlin International Film Festival and will have its international premiere at the Berlinale Special Gala.

Two more Catalan films will compete in the Panorama section: Sunday’s Illness by Ramón Salazar (Zeta Cinema) and Thirty Souls by Diana Toucedo (Lasoga Films, Diana Toucedo).

Two Catalan productions are also found in the festival’s Forum section: Meritxell Colell’s debut work Facing the Wind, a production of Polar Star Films, Habitación 1520, Hellish and Paraiso Production which participated as a project under development at the Cinéfondation’s L’Atelier of the 2015 edition of the Cannes Film Festival; and Theatre of War directed by Lola Arias (BWP-Bettina Walter Productions, Gema Films, Sutorn Kolonko), a project selected in the 2016 edition of the IDFA Forum co-production market.

The fifteenth edition of the co-production market will present the new project Tres directed by Juanjo Giménez and co-produced by Frida Films. Following the great success of the short film Timecode, the director is taking on his third feature film.

In addition, Berlinale Talents has made public the names of the 250 participants for this year. There are two Catalans among them: Clara Roquet, director of the successful short films El Adiós and Les bones nenes and co-scriptwriter of 10,000 KM, and Anna Pfaff, editor of Summer 1993, which received both Best First Feature Award and the Grand Prix of the Generation Kplus International Jury at last year’s festival.

Vasil, the new project from Distinto Films, will be part of the Script Station of Berlinale Talents with its director and scriptwriter Avelina Prat.

Berlin’s film festival is one of the five major film festivals in Europe, together with those of Cannes, Venice, Rotterdam and Locarno
