Quartet Casals perform at the Wigmore Hall in London

Music.  London,  12/12/2017

On the 12th December, the renowned Quartet Casals will be giving a concert at the Wigmore Hall of London, United Kingdom. The company evokes the creative originality of Beethoven’s string quartets alongside other more recent creations by the composer and cellist Giovanni Sollima.

Quartet Casals, formed by Abel Tomàs Realp and Vera Martínez Mehner (violins), Jonathan Brown (viola) and Arnau Tomàs Realp (cellist), are considered one of the 10 best string quartets in the world by international critics, and have achieved, like no other quartet in Spain, awards and recognitions. They have also become one of the most important string quartets of their generation, receiving first prizes at the international contests of London and Hamburg as well as being regularly invited to the most prestigious festivals and concert series in the world.

The company has performed zealously at the Wigmore Hall of London – where they perform this 12th December - , the Carnegie Hall of New York, the Musikverein of Vienna, the Kölner Philharmonie of Cologne, the Cité de la Musique of Paris, the Schubertiade of Schwarzenberg, the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam and the Philharmonie of Berlin, among many other locations around Europe, North America and Asia.

In 2016 they received the National Award for Culture, given by the CoNCA (National Council of Culture and the Arts); the City of Barcelona Award in 2005 and the National Award for Music from the Spanish Ministry of Culture in 2006, among others.

In September 2017 the Department of Culture of the Institut Ramon Llull (IRL) signed an agreement with Quartet Casals to give recognition and support to the work of musical training on their 20th anniversary (1997 – 2017).

Quartet Casals takes their name from the greatest Catalan string instrumentalist of the 20th century: the cellist Pau Casals (1876 – 1973)
