Music.  Luxemburg, 01/12/2017

Between 1 and 3 December, the first weekend of the month, Joan Martí-Frasquier will be teaching masterclasses for saxophonists and composers in the ArcA concert hall in Bertrange (Luxembourg). In addition, on 3 December, he will be giving a recital with the pianist Vanya Pesheva, during which he will be premiering two works.

Among the works to be performed by the Catalan musician at the concert on 3 December are two that will be heard in public for the first time: VIA 1, for baritone saxophone, by the Catalan composer Joan Magrané Figuera; and SONATA, for baritone saxophone and piano, by the Uruguayan Gustavo Britos Zunin. The musician will also be offering masterclasses over three days in the same cultural centre.

Joan Martí-Frasquier studied music in Barcelona before moving to France to complete his musical training. He trained with Christophe Bois at the ENM in Bourges and with Philippe Braquart at the CNR in Montpellier, and later with Damien Royannais at the CRR in Limoges. So far, he has given the first public performances with his baritone saxophone of over 30 works– solo, with electronics, with a trio of wind instrumentalists and with a quartet of saxophonists – by composers such as Ramon Hument, Joan Arnau Pàmies and Enric Riu.

Over the course of his career, he has performed in various European countries and has won a number of prestigious awards, among them the First Prize for Saxophone of the Centre Region of France (Tours, 2011), awarded unanimously by the jury, and the Diploma of Honour at the Twelfth International Music Tournament (Rome, 2006).

Martí-Frasquier teaches saxophone at the Reus Conservatoire and has put on workshops in various places, among them Andorra and Holland
