The award ceremony, to be held at 6.00 pm on Thursday 26 October at the Institut Ramon Llull, will also pay tribute to the Mallorcan poet and translator Gabriel S.T. Sampol, who will be giving an address on the subject of Per què portuguès? (Why Portuguese?). The author was awarded the Seventh Prize for 'Fetge de Tigre', his translation into Catalan of Francisco Gomes de Amorim’s 'Fígados de Tigre'. A graduate in Catalan philology, Sampol has published a number of collections of poetry, among them Vulgata (2004) and Lisbona (2015), and has translated works by authors such as António Vieira, Almeida Garrett, Fernando Pessoa and José Saramago.

The 17th Giovanni Pontiero Prize ceremony will also feature the Uruguayan singer and percussionist Sol Homar and his samba-funk music. Homar has worked in a number of theatre and dance companies as a composer and a performer and has been on tours to take his music to Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Europe.
