Toronto's International Festival of Authors has brought more than 9,000 authors from more than 100 countries to the festival since 1974. IFOA features novelists, poets, playwrights, short story writers, and biographers through its October festival, but hosts weekly programming year round, providing a platform for Canadian and international authors to present their work internationally.

On October 21st, Calafell will read alongside Roo Borson, Amanda Earl, Michael Fraser, David Goldstein, Jennifer LoveGrove, John Nyman, Nicholas Power, Stuart Ross, and Dane Swan for Poetic New Worlds.

Calafell will also participate in Around the World on October 24th, transporting listeners across three continents and nine countries with readings by David Coventry, Hideo Furukawa, Norbert Gstrein, Nicola Lagioia, David Machado, Eduard Márquez, Clemens J. Setz, Maja Vidmar, and Rohan Wilson.

The Catalan poet Mireia Calafell received the Lletra d'Or award for best Catalan book with Tantesmudes in 2015. She also wrote the books Poètiques del cos and Costures. Her work can be found in anthologies from Argentina, Brazil, Holand, UK, the United Arab Emirates, and Spain. With an interest in cultural politics, Calafell has authored articles in research journals and currently directs the i+ Poetry festival. Her works at the festival have been translated by Adrian West.

Eduard Márquez is the author numerous books of poetry, childrens books, and novels. With the support of Institut Ramon Llull, Eduard Márquez’s book Brandes’ Decision was recently translated into English by Mara Faye Letham with Hispabooks, but his books have also been translated into German, Italian, Spanish, and Turkish. His presence at IFOA is supported by Acción Cultural Española.
