LA CAGE Compagnie presents Ô Gilgamesh in Paris, a show by Edgar Alemany

Performing.  21/09/2017

From 5th to 30th September, LA CAGE Compagnie brings its latest work, directed by Edgar Alemany, to the Théâtre Les Déchargeurs in Paris. Ô Gilgamesh is a combination of the forms of traditional eastern theatre and contemporary playwriting that explores the oldest texts of humanity, those of Sumerian mythology. It is accompanied by the electroacoustic music of Joan Bagés

Gilgamesh, an all-powerful dictatorial monarch, receives the visit of a mysterious being created in his own image. This savage, brought up in the desert, challenges him to a duel and it is from this struggle that an unprecedented friendship emerges that leads the two heroes to seek success and excess. But this companion, deceived by a curse, decays and eventually dies. Gilgamesh then becomes aware of his own vulnerability and finds himself on a search for eternal life.

The director of the show and of LA CAGE Compagnie, Edgar Alemany, from Menorca, reflects on death, flight and friendship through the work. With an original staging and idea, and with a space that is constructed with each new word by one of the actors, the Catalan also sets out to compose an ode to oral tradition and popular culture.

For this work, Edgar Alemany has also worked with the musician Joan Bagés i Rubí, born in Flix, who has composed the music for the show.
