The 38th edition of Cinanima, the animated film festival, to be held from 9th to 15th November in Espinho, Portugal, is presenting a Catalan showcase with the screening of 20 short films. It has also organized a photographic exhibition to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the premiere of the Catalan animated cartoon film Garbancito de la Mancha, the first one in colour in Europe.

The showcase of Catalan animated short films envisages the programming of over 20 short films made in Catalonia, including Les fulles seques (Dry Leaves) by Eulàlia Pagès and Apeman by Juan Carlos Concha. The showcase will take place on 12th November and has been curated by Jordi Artigas, who has also been invited to be a member of the jury in this edition’s official section.

The prize-winners of the Cinanima sections are automatically entered for “Cartoon d’or”, the European competition for the best animated film, organized by the European Association of Animated Film. Moreover, the winner of the Cinanima Grand Prix enters the pre-competition of nominations for the Oscars in Hollywood.
