Archit. & design.  Barcelona, 02/06/2015

The French Academy of Architecture has awarded the Academy’s Gold Medal  for 2015 to the Olot Studio RCR Arquitectes, created and formed by Rafael Aranda, Carme Pigem and Ramon Vilalta, in recognition of the work done in the art of building. The presentation of this prize and others that the Academy has awarded will take place on 10th June, at the Maison de l’Architecture in Paris. RCR Arquitectes is one of the studios that were part of the Catalan exhibition at the last Venice Architecture Biennale, Arquitectures Empeltades / Grafting Architecture, promoted by the Institut Ramon Llull.

The Academy of Architecture was created with the aim of promoting the quality of architecture and its teaching, the organization of the territory and the conservation of the archives of French history in this field.

This award comes on top of the numerous recognitions that RCR has received in its 25-year history for its active role in contemporary architecture. They are Honorary Members of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA 2012), Honorary Members of the American Institute of Architects (AIA 2010), Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres de la République Française (2008) and Premi Nacional de Cultura de la Generalitat de Catalunya (2005). Their work has been presented in publications and in exhibitions mounted in Paris, Chicago, Venice, New York and Tokyo.

Currently, two exhibitions in Barcelona show the creativity of the architects from Olot. The first can be visited in the Palau Robert and looks back over their 25 years of history. The second, at Arts Santa Mònica, named RCR ARQUITECTES: PAPERS puts the spotlight on the studio’s creative process, with drawings, sketches, and various papers.

The Olot studio was one of the exhibitors in the Catalan project for the 2014 Venice Architecture Biennale
