Jordi Savall to give concerts in France, the USA and Switzerland during the month of June

Music.  France, United States and Switzerland,  02/06/2015

Over the course of the next 30 days Jordi Savall is to give eight concerts: six in France, one in the USA and one in Switzerland. After visiting Catalonia, with concerts in Barcelona, Vilanova i la Geltrú and Vic, Savall continues on his international tour that will take him all over Europe and North and South America. This tour has received the support of the Institut Ramon Llull. In 2014, Savall was awarded the Generalitat de Catalunya’s Gold Medal, in recognition of his musical career and his contribution to Catalan culture.

The Catalan musician Jordi Savall is today taking the programme that he performed last week in Barcelona and Vic to Paris: Dixit Dominus. Mozart, Handel and Vivaldi. He will be performing it with the Capella Reial de Catalunya and Le Concert des Nations at the Cité de la Musique in the French capital. On Thursday he will be in Maguelone, where he will play Fêtes Napolitaines. De la cour d’Alfonso V “el Magnánimo” (1442-1458) à celle de Federico I (1496-1501) in Maguelone Cathedral, in this case accompanied by his third group, Hespèrion XXI. This concert is part of the Festival de Musique Ancienne à Maguelone.

The stay in France precedes the brief visit Savall is to make to the USA: he will be playing in Boston on Monday, 8th June, at the New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall, in the Boston Early Music Festival. It will be with Hespèrion XXI and Tembembe Ensamble Continuo from Mexico, playing Folias Antigas & Folias Criollas.

On his return from Boston Savall has programmed a concert in Saint Peter’s Cathedral in Geneva (Switzerland) to perform La route de l’esclavage, on 13th June. He will be very well accompanied by Tembembe Ensamble Continuo, Les 3MA, La Capella Reial de Catalunya, Hespèrion XXI, and Argentine, Brazilian and African musicians. The concert is part of the Agapé Festival.

On 14th June Savall will be back in Paris, also at the Cité de la Musique, but this time to perform the same programme as in Geneva, with La Capella Reial de Catalunya, Hespèrion XXI and guest musicians from Africa and South America. On the following day, 15th June, he will once again perform La route de l’esclavage. De l’ancien au nouveau monde in the Basilica of Saint Denis. African, Arab, Turkish, Hispano-Portuguese and Latin American music with the same groups as in Geneva and with musicians from Mali, Morocco, Madagascar, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela. The next day, 16th June, he will be at the Festival de Froville to perform L’esprit d’Arménie with Hespèrion XXI. Finally, the last concert organized for June is at the Palace of Versailles with La nuit des rois de Jordi Savall, performed by La Capella Reial de Catalunya and Hespèrion XXI.
