Recognized for her improvisational skills, she has led a worldwide career for the past 25 years. First European tap-dancer to have gained status of permanent resident of American Hoofer, she has made herself known for conceptual approach of the form, musical experimentations, and involvement for the woman cause. She has been awarded the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation fellowship. She was the first woman to win a Bessie Award in the history of tap. Noticed by Jimmy Slyde who nicknamed her ‘Butterfly,’ Roxanne now runs the Jimmy Slyde Institute in Barcelona, where she teaches, performs and trains. While living in New York, she danced with famous musicians such as George Benson, James Carter, Stanley Jordan, Roy Haynes, Phil Woods, Benny Powell, & Les Pau. She was a featured soloist with the New York Virtuosi Orchestra, Stamford Philharmonic, the Cab Calloway Orchestra, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and invited to numerous festivals like Jazz à Toulon, The Nice Jazz Festival, Festival d' Un Monde á L' Autre, Clifford Brown Jazz Festival, Nuits D´Afrique. Her Djellaba Groove Project opened the Global Fest at the Public Theater, SummerStage, & Lincoln Center Outdoors. She has been compared to musicians John Coltrane & Steve Reich. She collaborated throughout two decades with Tamango´s Urban Tap. Roxanne has brought tap to international dance festivals such as the American Dance Festival, Harkness Dance Festival, ImpulsTanz, DanceSalad, & Institute del Teatre. She is the only woman of her generation who has led a worldwide solo-career under her name. Achievements include teaching at universities, lecturing at world-dance conferences & music-ethnology events, publishing in dance and music magazines in French and English, coaching actors and dancers such as Pablo Veron, appearing in films and multi-media projects, radio, television, directing and choreographing for commercials.
