The Centre Pompidou in Paris gives filmmaker Albert Serra a free hand

Cinema.  Paris, 17/04/2013

The Centre Pompidou in Paris is to give filmmaker Albert Serra a free hand, dedicating an exhibition to him from 17th April to 12th May in which his filmography will be screened in its entirety. This show is the result of the agreement signed between the Institut Ramon Llull and the Centre Pompidou, which envisages a series of activities based around the exhibition.

All this is part of a new episode of the season Correspondències that originated at the CCCB, and which presents the common ground between the films of two directors; in this case, between Serra and the Argentinian Lisandro Alonso.

On 17th April, the artist Jordi Valls, otherwise known as Vagina Dentata Organ, will perform during the opening of the exhibition, presenting a tribute to Derek Jarman, while the group Molforts, who composed the music to Els tres porquets (The Three Little Pigs), will pay tribute to Fassbinder with songs by Gunther Kaufmann.

Outstanding among the activities planned is the screening in full of the film Els tres porquets that Serra presented at the latest edition of the Kassel Documenta, also with the support of the Institut Ramon Llull. The film lasts a total of 101 hours, and is based on texts by Goethe, Hitler and Fassbinder. It will be screened in daily 10-hour sessions. The film has been translated into French especially for the occasion.

Within the free hand proposed by the Pompidou to Serra, among other activities there will be a round table - to be held on 27th April - on the aesthetics of bullfighting at which, besides Serra, Miquel Barceló, Francis Wolf and Luis Francisco Espla will speak.

There will be an epilogue to this season on 24th and 25th October with an all-night discussion about the films of Dalí and his own, in which Hans Ulrich Obrist, director of the Serpentine Gallery, will take part.

The season has the support of the IRL
